Oberlin? Sure, there’s an app

There is an app for almost anything you can think of these days; counting among those other subjects now, the city of Oberlin. According to a story published in the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, the app launched Sept. 28 at Oberlin’s Culture Fest.

I subscribe to the Oberlin News-Tribune, and appreciate the way it presents digested news. (As an Oberlin resident, I’m an editor myself for three newspapers that publish out of an office in Avon Lake.) Yet I feel as if, done right, the app will fill in natural primary information gaps, most obviously for people operating in their mobile computing worlds.

The app offers a home for city announcements, city events, downtown maps, a mechanism to report an issue, department contacts and FAQ.

In a city the size of Oberlin, would you use the app? What information could the city put there to make it useful to you?
